Hot and Spicy Quick Pickled Jalapenos

Do you know what jalapenos really are? A somewhat spicy vegetable that is used in the Mexican cuisine. That’s right. But there is a little bit more to it. The name jalapeño is Spanish and stands for “from Xalapa” (also spelled Jalapa), a city in Veracruz, Mexico, where the pepper was traditionally cultivated. Already the Aztec were using Jalapeños long time before the Spanish conquest. On the ancient Aztec markets they were selling chipotles (smoked jalapeños), mole made from chipotles, besides the sale of fresh chilies.
We re thrilled to present a recipe that shows you how to pickle the jalapenos. Oh, and it won’t take long to make the hot and spicy quick pickled jalapenos! They are basically done over night.  Because of the short pickling time the jalapenos are a bit crunchier though.

Serve the pickled jalapenos with hummus and pita chips! A great snack when watching a football game. Don’t you agree?

Ingredients Spicy Pickled Jalapenos

1 cup water
3/4 cup white distilled vinegar
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
1 teaspoon salt
8 large jalapenos, sliced
