Sterilize Jars – Valuable Canning Tips

If you like to pickle fruit or vegetable you need to know How to Sterilize Jars.  It is very important because if you don’t sterilize them the right way all your hard work will go waste, and we all know that this is very annoying.
Some say “cleanliness is next to godliness” and it is true when it comes to preserving and canning. The jars that you are using have to be 100 percent free of any bacteria or any micro-organism. Find out in this article how to sterilize jars so you can enjoy the pickles within the next months.
All the methods below have to be used JUST before you fill in the fruit or vegetable into the jars. Don’t do this the day or hours before. Also sterilize the lids.
How to Sterilize Jars

How to Sterilize Jars – OVEN Method

Get rid of bacteria by heating the jars in the oven. Place the jars in upright position on a baking sheet lined with a kitchen roll. The tray needs to be placed into the COLD oven.
Now bake them for 30 min on 110C or 225F.

How to Sterilize Jars – WATER Method

You need a big pot and a kitchen towel.
Place the cloth on the bottom of the pot and on top of it place the jars upright on it.
Fill the pot with water so all jars a well covered.
Bring the pot of water to a boil, let boil for 10 minutes.
Cover your hands with gloves when removing the jars out of the pot, they are very hot.
Stand them upside-down on a very clean kitchen towel so they can drain.
Fill them right away while the jars are warm and close them instantly.

How to Sterilize Jars – MICROWAVE Method

Fill the jars half with water.
With full power heat them until you can see the water has boiled and bubbled for 1 minute.
With gloved hands carefully remove the jars from the microwave.
Empty them out, place them upside down on a very clean kitchen towel.
Fill in content while they are warm but they have to be dry!
